The MAPPA Channel has released a new Vinland Saga Season 2 short titled “Same old story.” Labelled as Episode 18.5 of the show, the short sees Ketil giving an impassioned speech to the men on his farm as they prepare to meet Canute’s arrival with violence.
“Answer me, norsemen!!” Ketil bellows halfway through the short. “How do you repay those who come to steal your fields?!” The first answer: “With blood!!”
Vinland Saga Season 2 previously received a similar short, Episode 6.5 “Drowning in the Shadow,” in February.
Vinland Saga Season 2 premiered on January 9. Netflix and Crunchyroll are streaming the show outside of Japan. The first season of Vinland Saga aired in 2019.
The anime is based on Makoto Yukimura’s Kodansha-published manga that began in 2005 and has 26 tankoubon volumes as of May 2022. The series is currently serialized in Monthly Afternoon magazine. Kodansha USA describes the manga as:
As a child, Thorfinn sat at the feet of the great Leif Ericson and thrilled to wild tales of a land far to the west. But his youthful fantasies were shattered by a mercenary raid. Raised by the Vikings who murdered his family, Thorfinn became a terrifying warrior, forever seeking to kill the band’s leader, Askeladd, and avenge his father. Sustaining Throfinn through his ordeal are his pride in his family and his dreams of a fertile westward land, a land without war or slavery … the land Leif called Vinland.
Like the WIT STUDIO-produced Season 1, Vinland Saga Season 2’s staff includes Shuhei Yabuta as director, Hiroshi Seko as series composer, Abiru Takahiko as character designer, Yusuke Takeda as art director, Yuki Kawashita as photography director, Satoshi Hashimoto as color designer, and Yutaka Yamada as music composer.
Hashimoto is now joined by Minori Nishita as color designer while Kawashita is sharing photography directorial duties with Hisashi Matsumuko (Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out!). Meanwhile, Kouhei Ogawa (Healer Girl 3D director) is the 3DCG director instead of Season 1’s Mayu Takehana.
The cast of Vinland Saga Season 2 includes Yuuto Uemura as Thorfinn, Kenshou Ono as Canute, Shunsuke Takeuchi as Einar, Mayumi Sako as Arnheid, Yuu Hayashi as Olmar, Taiten Kusunoki as Thorgil, Hideaki Tezuka as Ketil, and Mugihito as Sverkel.
