The Ya Boy Kongming! manga is getting the live-action treatment with a drama starring Osamu Mukai in the lead role of Zhuge Kongming.

Two visuals featuring Mukai in costume have been released.

The Ya Boy Kongming! manga written by Yuuto Yotsuba and drawn by Ryou Ogawa began serialization in 2019 and has 13 tankoubon volumes as of April 2023. The manga was first serialized in Kodansha’s Comic Days app/website before being moved to Weekly Young Magazine. It is published under the Young Magazine Comics label.

Kodansha USA describes the plot as:

General of the Three Kingdoms, Kongming had struggled his whole life, facing countless battles that made him into the accomplished strategist he was. So on his deathbed, he wished only to be reborn into a peaceful world…and was sent straight to modern-day party-central, Tokyo! Can even a brilliant strategist like Kongming adapt to the wild beats and even wilder party people?!

Ya Boy Kongming! previously inspired a TV anime adaptation directed by Osamu Honma (The Aquatope on White Sand episode director) and produced by P.A.WORKS. The anime, which aired from April to June 2022, gained attention for its opening animation sequence and the opening song “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” which was a cover of the Hungarian song “Bulikirály.”

Melvyn originally wanted to write about video games, and he did so for a few years, starting from his college days. He still writes about video games sometimes, but now focuses on anime-related news content and the occasional review. Some of his free time is spent self-learning Japanese, both out of interest in the language and because English-translated light novels and manga are expensive. Every anime season, Melvyn looks forward to discovering new standout episodes and OP/ED animation sequences, as well as learning about the storyboard artists and directors behind them.
