Cygames, Inc. has announced the establishment of two new overseas branches: the United States-based Cygames America and the United Kingdom-based Cygames Europe.
In a press release, the Tokyo-based video game developer and publisher called the new western branches the “latest additions to Cygames’ ongoing push to promote and market their titles in North America and Europe, which together account for roughly half of the world’s video game marketplace.”
Cygames had previously set up branches in Korea and Taiwan in 2017 and 2018, respectively. A Global Business Development Department was formed a few months before Cygames Korea’s establishment.
Cygames was founded in 2011. The games that it has developed include Granblue Fantasy, Rage of Bahamut, The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls Starlight Stage, Shadowverse, Princess Connect! Re: Dive, World Flipper, and Uma Musume Pretty Derby (most of these have inspired anime series). The global version of Princess Connect! Re: Dive, which is distributed by Crunchyroll, is set to end service on April 30 this year.
Some Cygames titles have been stuck in development for a number of years. Most notable is the upcoming open world action-RPG Granblue Fantasy: Relink, which was first announced in 2016 as Granblue Fantasy Project Re: Link and is currently slated for a 2023 launch on PS5, PS4, and Steam. The game was originally co-developed with PlatinumGames until a 2019 announcement revealed that Cygames had fully taken over development. Another is the mobile game Lost Order, which was also announced in 2016 and had a closed beta test in 2017; it is unknown when Lost Order will be released.
Aside from games development and publishing, Cygames has also involved itself in other media or areas like anime, comics, and Esports.
