Komada — A Whisky Family Is P.A.WORKS’ Next “Working Series” Anime

P.A.WORKS has announced an original anime movie titled Komada — A Whisky Family, which will be part of the 2023 Annecy Contrechamp Feature Film Selection. The new movie is the latest entry in the studio’s “working series” and is set for a November 2023 release in Japan. An international release is “yet to be announced.”

As the title suggests, Komada — A Whisky Family will be set in a whiskey distillery. A trailer providing a brief look at the setting and characters and a visual have been released.

The plot is described as:

“Rui takes over the family business distillery facing imminent doom. They work to rebuild the business by seeking to reproduce the long lost signature whiskey.”

Masayuki Yoshihara (The Eccentric Family) is directing Komada — A Whisky Family with a script by Yukito Kizawa (Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night) and Muneo Nakamoto (The Irregular at Magic High School: Reminiscence Arc). The movie features character designs and chief animation direction from Kousuke Kawatsura (The Eccentric Family character designer) with original character designs by Tomomi Takada (Skip & Loafer in-between check). Tatsuya Katou (Trigun Stampede) is composing the score.

Meanwhile, the cast includes:

Saori Hayami as Rui Komada
Kenshou Ono as Kotaro Takahashi
Maaya Uchida as Tomoko Kawabata
Yoshimasa Hosoya as Yasumoto

Previous titles in P.A.WORKS’ “working series” include 2011’s Hanasaku Iroha: Blossoms for Tomorrow (hot-spring inn-themed), 2014’s Shirobako (anime production-themed), 2017’s Sakura Quest (tourism-themed), and 2021’s The Aquatope on White Sand (aquarium-themed).
