The HBO Max Twitter account revealed that the previously announced Rick and Morty: The Anime series will arrive on the streaming platform and Adult Swim sometime this year. An image showing off the anime’s visual style was released with the tweet.

Rick and Morty: The Anime will have 10 episodes and has a different continuity from the main series. The show is produced by Telecom Animation Film and directed by Takashi Sano (Tower of God). Sano previously directed the Rick and Morty vs. Genocider and Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil) anime shorts.

The original Rick and Morty sci-fi animated series was created by Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland. The first episode was released back in 2013. Season 6 premiered last September.

Netflix describes the plot as:

Brilliant but boozy scientist Rick hijacks his fretful teenage grandson, Morty, for wild escapades in other worlds and alternate dimensions.
