Netflix and Science SARU have officially announced that an original anime series of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim graphic novels is in production. Additionally, the cast from the 2010 Scott Pilgrim vs the World will all reprise their respective roles for the anime.

The series will be directed by Spanish animator Abel Góngora (Star Wars: Visions: “T0-B1” director), with O’Malley, Edgar Wright, and BenDavid Grabinski attached as executive producers. Joseph Trapanese and chiptune pop rock band Anamanaguchi are composing the series’ musical score.

The ensemble voice cast features many of the 2010 film’s original cast, including Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers, Satya Bhabha as Matthew Patel, Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells, Chris Evans as Lucas Lee, Anna Kendrick as Stacey Pilgrim, Brie Larson as Envy Adams, Alison Pill as Kim Pine, Aubrey Plaza as Julie Powers, Brandon Routh as Todd Ingram, Jason Schwartzman as Gideon Graves, Johnny Simmons as Young Neil, Mark Webber as Stephen Stills, Mae Whitman as Roxy Richter, and Ellen Wong as Knives Chau.

Rumors of a Scott Pilgrim anime was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter as early as in January 2022.

O’Malley’s graphic novel series was published by Oni Press and ran from August 18, 2004 to July 20, 2010. Six collected volumes have been released in total. The series also inspired a mobile comic and video game adaptation.

A previous animated short titled Scott Pilgrim vs The Animation produced by Titmouse Inc. premiered on Adult Swim on August 12, 2010.

Oni Press describes the first volume of Scott Pilgrim as:

Scott Pilgrim wants Ramona Flowers to be his girlfriend. However, she’s got baggage in the form of seven evil exes, all of whom Scott must defeat to win her heart! The first two are Matthew Patel (and his demon hipster girls) and Lucas Lee (movie star famous for… skateboarding?). Can Scott focus long enough to take them out?
