A new PV trailer has been released for the isekai fantasy TV anime The Great Cleric. The anime series will premiere sometime in July 2023.
The production team also revealed additional voice cast members joining the show. They include Rika Kinugawa as Lumina, Hina Tachibana as Nanaera, Manaka Iwami as Monika, Mikoi Sasaki as Kururu, and Shoutarou Morikubo as Koun-sensei. They join a main cast that include Reiji Kawashima as Luciel, Akio Ootsuka as Brod, Tomoaki Maeno as Grulga, and Daisuke Ono as Galba.
Singer-songwriter Nasuo is performing the opening theme “Bagu-chan” while actress Yuki Nakashima is singing the ending theme “A New Day.”
Makoto Tamagawa (The Genius Prince’s Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt) is directing the anime with Keiichirou Oochi (Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari) as series screenwriter, and Guonian Wang (Love Tyrant co-assistant character designer) as character designer. Yokohama Animation Lab and Cloud Hearts are the animation production companies for the show.
The anime is based on the light novel series written by Broccoli Lion and illustrated by sime, which began as a web novel on Shousetsuka ni Narou from October 17, 2015 to February 28, 2022. Micro Magazine published the series on August 30, 2016 and released 10 physical volumes as of January 2022. J-Novel Club releases the light novels in English digitally.
A manga adaptation by Hiiro Akikaze was serialized in Kodansha’s Suiyoubi no Sirius in June 2017 under the Sirius KC label. Eleven tankoubon volumes have been published as of March 2023.
Kodansha USA licensed The Great Cleric manga under their Vertical label and describes the synopsis as:
A salaryman collapses from a gunshot wound. When he comes to, he finds himself reincarnated in another world as a fifteen-year-old healer named Luciel with a talent for holy magic. In order to survive in this new world, he must build up his body and endure intensive and strict physical training, not to mention awful flavors!
