The First Slam Dunk Surpasses The Wind Rises’ Japanese Box Office Earnings

The First Slam Dunk has earned 12.17 billion yen (~US$92.46 million) in Japan, making it the 27th highest-grossing movie in the country.

Its new position puts it slightly ahead of Hayao Miyazaki‘s The Wind Rises, which sits in the 29th spot of the all-time ranking. The First Slam Dunk took the 30th spot last week.

On the weekend ranking, The First Slam Dunk fell slightly from second place to fourth due to the debuts of the My Happy Marriage live-action adaptation and Hideaki Anno‘s Shin Kamen Rider.

Other anime films on the weekend ranking are Doraemon: Nobita’s Sky Utopia at third place, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Swordsmith Village- at eighth, and Blue Giant at 10th. Doraemon: Nobita’s Sky Utopia has made 1.78 billion yen (~US$13.51 million) in total since its March 2 debut.
