Capcom has released an anime promotional video for the upcoming Resident Evil 4 remake titled “Resident Evil Masterpiece Theater – ‘Leon and the Mysterious Village’ EP 1.”

Nippon Animation is credited with production assistance for the anime short, which features a visual style reminiscent of 70s anime.

The “Masterpiece Theater” in the video’s title is a reference to the World Masterpiece Theater series (which has also gone by other names like Calpis Theater) that began in 1969. The series featured Nippon Animation-produced titles like 1975’s Dog of Flanders, 1979’s Anne of Green Gables, and 1980’s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. The 1974 Zuiyo-produced Heidi: A Girl of the Alps was another notable anime that fell under the World Masterpiece Theater umbrella.

The Resident Evil 4 remake is set to launch on March 24 on PS5, PS4, Xbox One, and Steam.

Melvyn originally wanted to write about video games, and he did so for a few years, starting from his college days. He still writes about video games sometimes, but now focuses on anime-related news content and the occasional review. Some of his free time is spent self-learning Japanese, both out of interest in the language and because English-translated light novels and manga are expensive. Every anime season, Melvyn looks forward to discovering new standout episodes and OP/ED animation sequences, as well as learning about the storyboard artists and directors behind them.
