A TV anime inspired by the Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout video game is set to begin airing in Japan this summer. A teaser visual illustrated by the game’s character designer Toridamono and a trailer have been released.

Ema Yuzuriha is directing the Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout anime at LIDENFILMS. Other main staff include Yashichirou Takahashi (Shakugan no Shana light novel author) as series composer, Tomoyuki Shitaya (Afterlost) as character designer, and the game’s Kazuki Yanagawa as music composer.

Meanwhile, reprising their roles from the game are:

Yuri Noguchi as Reisalin “Ryza” Stout

Hitomi Oowada as Klaudia Valentz

Takuma Terashima as Lent Marslink

Yui Kondou as Tao Mongarten

Hirofumi Nojima as Empel Vollmer

Haruka Terui as Lila Decyrus

The Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout game is the first title in the Atelier Ryza JRPG trilogy developed by Gust and published by Koei Tecmo. The PlayStation store describes it as:

The main character is Ryza, an ordinary girl.

Tired of boring village life, she escapes the village to gather with her good friends in a secret location to talk of their dreams and plan thrilling adventures.

One day, the determined Ryza and company decide to head for the forbidden “island across the shore” as their first exploration trip.

Together with the alchemist and other friends they meet there, they have a “summer adventure” that they will never forget.

The game was released in September 2019 for Switch and PS4 and in October that same year for Steam. The third installment, Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key, is set to be released on March 23, 2023 for PS5, PS4, and Switch and on March 24 on Steam.

The Atelier Ryza trilogy is part of the long-running Atelier series that began in 1997 with Atelier Marie: The Alchemist of Salburg. 2013’s Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky game was adapted into a 2014 anime series produced by Studio Gokumi.

Melvyn originally wanted to write about video games, and he did so for a few years, starting from his college days. He still writes about video games sometimes, but now focuses on anime-related news content and the occasional review. Some of his free time is spent self-learning Japanese, both out of interest in the language and because English-translated light novels and manga are expensive. Every anime season, Melvyn looks forward to discovering new standout episodes and OP/ED animation sequences, as well as learning about the storyboard artists and directors behind them.
