The production team for NieR:Automata Ver1.1a has announced that episodes 9 onwards have been postponed due to the impact of COVID-19 on the production schedule. A premiere date for the remaining episodes is yet to be announced. The anime first premiered on January 8, 2023.
This is the second prolonged production delay NieR:Automata Ver1.1a has faced since it first aired. The first delay was announced at the end of January 2023, before returning in February.

The anime series is inspired by 2017’s NieR: Automata open world action-RPG. It is directed by Ryouji Masuyama (Blend S, The Idolmaster: Cinderella Girls assistant director) with NieR: Automata creator Yoko Taro as co-series screenwriter with Masuyama. Other main staff include Jun Nakai (Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files {Rail Zeppelin} Grace note) as character designer and chief animation director and MONACA (Assassin’s Pride) as music composer. A-1 Pictures is in charge of the animation production.
The returning cast from the game includes Yui Ishikawa as 2B, Natsuki Hanae as 9S, Chiaki Kano as YoRHa’s commander, Keiko Isobe as Operator 6O, Meari Hatsumi as Operator 21O, Aoi Yuuki as Pacal, Daisuke Namikawa as Adam, and Tatsuhisa Suzuki as Eve. Atsumi Tanezaki is voicing Lily, a character from the YoRHa prequel stage play and its manga adaptation.
NieR:Automata Ver1.1a is currently streaming on Crunchyroll. The official English anime website describes the synopsis as:
The sudden aerial invasion of Earth by <Aliens> and their creations <Machine Lifeforms> led mankind to the brink of extinction. The surviving number of humans who took refuge on the moon to organize a counterattack using <android> soldiers to recapture Earth.
However, the war reaches a stalemate as the <Machine Lifeforms> continue to multiply infinitely. In turn, humanity deploys a new unit of android soldiers as an ultimate weapon: YoRHa. Newly dispatched to Earth 2B joins 9S, the analyst currently stationed there, where amid their mission, they encounter a myriad of mysterious phenomena…
This is the story of these lifeless <androids> and their endless fight for the sake of mankind.
