Animator Takahiro Kimura, who served as character designer on series like Code Geass and Gun x Sword, passed away on March 5 after a battle with amyloidosis. The announcement was made by the Code Geass website on March 9.

The disclosure of the disease’s name was made in accordance with the wishes of Kimura’s family. The NHS defines amyloidosis as a “group of rare, serious conditions caused by a build-up of an abnormal protein called amyloid in organs and tissues throughout the body” that can “lead to organ failure.”

Kimura was born in 1964 in Fukuoka. Some of his earliest production credits include serving as in-between animator on the Black Magic M-66 OVA and the Touch anime series in the 1980s. In the 21st century, Kimura contributed key animation to titles like A Letter to Momo, Snow White with the Red Hair, Carnival Phantasm (opening animation), and Kizumonogatari Part 3: Reiketsu.

As character designer, Kimura’s name can be found in shows like:

Dirty Pair Flash
