Chibi Godzilla Anime To Begin on April 1

An anime based on the Chibi Godzilla characters is set to begin airing on April 1 in Japan. A teaser trailer and key visual have been released.

The cast for the show, which is titled Chibi Godzilla no Gyakushuu (Chibi Godzilla’s Counterattack), includes Jun Fukuyama, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, Takuya Eguchi, Rie Takahashi, Hiro Shimono, Fumihiko Tachiki, Miyuki Sawashiro, Reina Ueda, and Akari Kitou.

Taketo Shinkai (Anime Kaisha de Hanasu Koto ka yo) is directing the anime with illustrator Chiharu Sakazaki (Chibi Godzilla designer) as character designer. Pie in the sky, which Shinkai co-founded and serves as creative director in, is the animation production company.

The Chibi Godzilla designs were first announced in 2018, the year before Godzilla‘s 65th anniversary. They have been used for T-shirts, onesies, pocket books, and more.

Melvyn originally wanted to write about video games, and he did so for a few years, starting from his college days. He still writes about video games sometimes, but now focuses on anime-related news content and the occasional review. Some of his free time is spent self-learning Japanese, both out of interest in the language and because English-translated light novels and manga are expensive. Every anime season, Melvyn looks forward to discovering new standout episodes and OP/ED animation sequences, as well as learning about the storyboard artists and directors behind them.
