A special Valentine’s Day key visual has been released for The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten, showcasing Mahiru Shiina presenting a red box of chocolates. The 12-episode romantic comedy anime first premiered on January 7, 2023 and is streaming on Crunchyroll worldwide, except in Japan.
A special cover of Sayuri Kokushou’s 1986 song “Valentine Kiss” was also released to celebrate the occasion, performed by voice actress Manaka Iwami as her lead character. The cover song was added to a special video highlighting scenes from the anime, as well as in a separate video for the new visual. It is now available on all music streaming platforms.
The new Valentine’s visual is just one of many seasonal visuals the anime series has released in the past few months.
The production staff includes Kenichi Imaizumi (Kingdom Season 3, After School Dice Club) as supervisor, Li Hua Wang as director, Keiichirou Oochi (Girlfriend, Girlfriend) as series screenwriter, Takayuki Noguchi (Higehiro: After Being Rejected, I Shaved and Took in a High School Runaway) as character designer, and Moe Hyuuga (If My Favorite Pop Idol Made It to the Budokan, I Would Die) as music composer. Project No.9 is handling the animation production.
Additional staff include Masakazu Miyake (Prima Doll) as art director, Hiyori’s Yukiko Ario (The Greatest Demon Lord is Reborn as a Typical Nobody) as color designer, and Tomiya Kamijou (Higehiro) as photography director.
The voice cast includes Taito Ban as Amane Fujimiya, Manaka Iwami as Mahiru, Taku Yashiro as Itsuki Akasawa, and Haruka Shiraishi as Chitose Shirakawa.
The original light novels are written by Saekisan and illustrated by Hanekoto starting from the second volume onwards. It was first published on June 15, 2019 under SB Creative’s GA Bunko imprint. Eight physical volumes and a short story collection have been released as of January 2023. A manga adaptation by Wan Shibata was launched in Square Enix’s Manga UP! app and website on January 6, 2022.
The original light novels are released in English by Yen Press under its Yen On imprint. It describes the synopsis as:
Mahiru is a beautiful girl whose classmates all call her an “angel.” Not only is she a star athlete with perfect grades—she’s also drop-dead gorgeous. Amane, an average guy and self-admitted slob, has never thought much of the divine beauty, despite attending the same school.
Everything changes, however, when he happens to see Mahiru sitting alone in a park during a rainstorm. Thus begins the strange relationship between this incredibly unlikely pair!
The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten is currently ranked second on Anime Trending’s weekly Top Anime Charts for Winter 2023 anime. Mahiru Shiina and Amane Fujimiya are the top ranked Female Character and top ranked Male Character respectively. They are also the top Couple Ship in the fourth week of the Winter 2023 anime charts.
