A new key visual has been released for the action anime series The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel — Northern War. The new visual highlights several core characters of the series, including original anime protagonist Lavian Winslet and Trails of Cold Steel video game lead Rean Schwarzer.
The anime series first premiered on January 6, 2023, with the sixth and most recent episode airing on February 10, 2023.
Hidekazu Satou (Aquarion Logos, Last Hope) is directing the anime, with Hideki Ryouga and Mao Emura (Tsukipro the Animation scriptwriter) as series screenwriters, Mina Oosawa (The Strongest Sage with the Weakest Crest) as character designer, and Shouji Hara (King of Prism -Shiny Seven Stars- character designer) as original character designer. Emura is also the animation story researcher. Tatsunoko Production is handling the animation production.
The main cast includes Makoto Koichi as Lavian Winslet, Yuuichi Nakamura as Martin S. Robinson, Sarah Emi Bridcutt as Iseria Frost, and Yuuki Ono as Talion Drake.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel — Northern War is inspired by Nihon Falcom‘s The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel game series, which was first released in 2013. The video game series is part of the larger Trails series that began in 2004, which in turn is part of The Legend of Heroes franchise that began in 1989.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV was initially released for PlayStation 4 in Japan on September 27, 2018 and in North America and Europe on October 27, 2020. In 2021, it was released on the Nintendo Switch, PC, and Stadia platforms.

Lavi was born in North Ambria, the poorest region in the northwestern Zemuria. She enlists in the Northern Jaegers, the largest in the continent, to protect her hometown and distinguish herself from her grandfather Vlad, who was once a hero but betrayed North Ambria.
Her devotion to her missions often earned her violations of regulations, and one day, she is ordered to assemble a platoon with Martin, Iseria, and Talion for an impossible spy mission to Erebonia to gather information on the “Imperial Hero” a mysterious threat to North Ambria.
