The production team for Megumi no Daigo: Kyuukoku no Orange consists of Masahiko Murata (To Your Eternity season one) as director, Shinzou Fujita (To Your Eternity season two) as series screenwriter, and Hitomi Tsuruta (Futsal Boys!!!!!) and Kouji Yabuno (To Your Eternity season two) as character designers. Brain’s Base is handling the animation production for the series.
The anime is based on the manga series written by Masahito Soda and illustrated by Kuro Tomiyama. It began serialization in Kodansha’s Monthly Shounen Magazine on October 6, 2020. Six tankoubon volumes have been released under the KC Deluxe label as of December 2022.

Kyuukoku no Orange is a sequel to Soda’s original Megumi no Daigo manga series, which was serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shounen Sunday from September 6, 1995 to June 16, 1999. Twenty tankoubon volumes have been released in total.
The Megumi no Daigo manga also inspired a 1999 anime film from Sunrise and an 11-episode live-action television drama series that ran on Fuji TV from January 6, 2004 to March 16, 2004.

Viz Media released Soda’s 1995 manga series in English as Firefighter!: Daigo of Fire Company M. It describes the first volume as:
Fire, smoke, adrenaline, and fear–when everyone is running to escape from a fire, a few courageous people are running to jump right into the thick of it. Firefighters put their own lives on the line to protect others and Daigo Asahina has always dreamed of becoming one. He’s fresh out of the training academy and has been newly assigned to Medaka-Ga-Hama fire station. Cocky and overconfident, Daigo responds to a few calls and is quickly humbled and put in his place–he’s still got a lot to learn before he can call himself a true firefighter.
