During a stage reading celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Magical Girl Raising Project franchise, it was announced that an anime adaptation of the Magical Girl Raising Project Restart light novels are in development. The production team also announced on their Twitter account that various other projects for the franchise are in the works.
Hiroyuki Hashimoto — the director for the 2016 TV anime series — reported on his Twitter account that he will return to direct Magical Girl Raising Project Restart. The second and third light novel volumes cover the “Restart” arc, of which the new anime project will adapt. The format of the anime project is currently unknown.
Aside from Hashimoto, the production staff for the Magical Girl Raising Project anime included Takao Yoshioka (Horimiya) as series screenwriter, Yukiko Aikei (Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop) as character designer, Ayano Fujita (Classroom of the Elite) and Kouji Kono (Bakugan: Evolutions) as chief animation directors, and Takurou Iga as music composer. Lerche was in charge of the animation production.
The original light novel series is written by Asari Endou and illustrated by Maruino. The light novels were first published by Takarajimasha on June 8, 2012 through its Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! Bunko imprint. Seventeen physical volumes have been published as of April 2022. Yen Press released both the light novels and Pochi Edoya’s manga adaptation in English in June 2017.
A manga adaptation of the “Restart” arc was launched in Kadokawa’s Monthly Comp Ace magazine in June 2016. Kadokawa has released one volume as of September 2016.
The 12-episode Magical Girl Raising Project anime premiered in Japan from October 1, 2016 to December 17, 2016.
