A 15-second teaser video has been released for Gamera -Rebirth-, a previously announced project that is now revealed to be a six-episode anime that will be streamed on Netflix. A Gyaos visual was also released.
The show will see Gamera facing off against five kaiju.
Gamera -Rebirth- was announced last November with two teaser visuals.
The titular turtle-like monster debuted in the 1965 film Gamera the Giant Monster following the success of Toho’s Godzilla. The film was produced by Daiei, which fell under the Kadokawa Group’s management in 2002. Following a name change and “renewal” in 2004 and a 2011 merger with Kadokawa Shoten, Daiei split off from Kadokawa Shoten in 2013 and became Kadokawa Daiei Studio.
Numerous Gamera films were released over the years, with the most recent being a 2015 short film that commemorated the franchise’s 50th anniversary.
Update: The original article erroneously stated that Shuusuke Kaneko (director of the Heisei-era Gamera titles) and Kazunori Itou (the writer of those films) were involved in Gamera -Rebirth-. Those portions have been removed.
