Netflix has released the main trailer for the upcoming Make My Day anime movie, which premieres on February 2.
Make My Day‘s story was created by manga artist Yasuo Ohtagaki (Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt, Altered Carbon: Resleeved character designer). A new tweet from Netflix says that Aliens was one of Ohtagaki’s inspirations for the 3DCG sci-fi movie.
Netflix describes the plot as:
The snowy, ice-covered planet Coldfoot is home to a precious energy-rich ore called “Sig.” On the surface, the planet seems to be a crime-free utopia, but in reality prisoners are used for back-breaking Sig mining. Jim, a young prison guard, rushes to the site of a sudden mining accident to find a mysterious creature attacking the humans.
Makoto Honda (Sakura Kakumei ~Hana Saku Otome-tachi~ 3DCG director) is the director of the film, with Yumiko Yoshizawa as script writer, Kiyotaka Oshiyama (Deca-Dence cyborg designer) and Shouji Kawamori (Macross co-mechanical designer) as mechanical designers, and Kensuke Ushio (Chainsaw Man) as music composer. Taiwan-based 3DCG animation production studio Studio5, which Honda founded and is president of, is credited with the character designs and animation production. Studio5’s head office is located in Osaka and has a branch office in Tokyo.
Meanwhile, the cast includes Masaomi Yamahashi as Jim, Kazuhiro Yamaji as Walter, Ayahi Takagaki as Marnie, Akio Otsuka as Bark, and Atsuko Tanaka as Cathy Beck.
