Skip & Loafer is based on the Kodansha-published manga series by Misaki Takamatsu, which began serialization in Monthly Afternoon in 2018. Eight tankoubon volumes have been published under the Afternoon KC label as of January 2023.

Seven Seas Entertainment describes the story as:

Mitsumi is bound for high school in Tokyo! She’s got book smarts, but this small-town girl is about to find out she’s massively unprepared for the social norms of big city high schoolers.

Kotomi Deai (Natsume’s Book of Friends director) is serving as director and series composer for the anime with Yuriko Abe (The Aquatope on White Sand episode director and storyboarder) as assistant director. P.A. Works is the animation production company.

Other staff include Manami Umeshita (Stella Women`s Academy, High School Division Class C3 character designer) as character designer and one of the chief animation directors,  E-Caesar as art director, Yuuko Kobari (Inu-Oh) as color designer, Kazuto Izumida (The Heike Story) as photography director, and Takatsugu Wakabayashi (Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer) as music composer.

Meanwhile, the previously announced cast includes Tomoyo Kurosawa as main character Mitsumi Iwakura and Akinori Egoshi as her friend Sosuke Shima.

Melvyn originally wanted to write about video games, and he did so for a few years, starting from his college days. He still writes about video games sometimes, but now focuses on anime-related news content and the occasional review. Some of his free time is spent self-learning Japanese, both out of interest in the language and because English-translated light novels and manga are expensive. Every anime season, Melvyn looks forward to discovering new standout episodes and OP/ED animation sequences, as well as learning about the storyboard artists and directors behind them.
