Bandai Namco Entertainment has released a story trailer for the Sword Art Online: Last Recollection action-RPG that was announced last November.

The new Sword Art Online game sees the scythe-wielding Dark Knight Dorothy (Rina Satou), who describes herself as the “Child of Sin,” escorting a young girl called Sarai (Yuuki Kuwahara) to the Human Empire’s Obsidia castle. One section of the trailer has a voice declaring that “she (which the accompanying footage indicates to be Dorothy, although it could be in reference to Sarai instead) doesn’t belong here OR in your realm.”

The trailer also previews Sword Art Online: Last Recollection‘s third-person combat, the theme song “VITA” by ReoNa, and some 2D-animated footage. Sword Art Online: Alicization — War of Underworld main antagonist Gabriel Miller is also teased at the end.

Sword Art Online: Last Recollection is planned for a 2023 launch, with the platforms including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Steam. In addition to single player, the game will support co-op for up to four players.

Characters like Asuna, Sinon, Leafa, Alice, Lisbeth, Silica, Bercouli, Eldrie, Deusolbert, Shasta, Lipia, Iskahn, Dee Eye Ell, Sheyta, and Vassago will be in the game. Eugeo and Cardinal are notably alive and part of the lineup, while Kirito seems to have avoided his comatose state in the light novels and anime.

Melvyn originally wanted to write about video games, and he did so for a few years, starting from his college days. He still writes about video games sometimes, but now focuses on anime-related news content and the occasional review. Some of his free time is spent self-learning Japanese, both out of interest in the language and because English-translated light novels and manga are expensive. Every anime season, Melvyn looks forward to discovering new standout episodes and OP/ED animation sequences, as well as learning about the storyboard artists and directors behind them.
