The Fire Hunter Releases New PV Trailer, Unveils OP Theme Song

A new PV trailer has been released for the upcoming supernatural action anime series The Fire Hunter (also known as Hikari no Ou). The 2-minute trailer showcases some of the characters that will appear in the series, as well as the main opening theme. The Fire Hunter is scheduled to premiere on January 14, 2023. 

The new trailer can be viewed on the anime’s official Japanese Twitter account. It is also posted on YouTube, but is region-restricted. 

The opening theme song is “Usotsuki” by Japanese singer-songwriter Leo Ieiri. Meanwhile, the ending theme “Mada Tooku ni Iru” is performed by voice actress Maaya Sakamoto

The main voice cast consists of Misaki Kuno as Toko, Shouya Ishige as Koshi, Saori Hayami as Kira, Megumi Yamaguchi as Hinako, Shinichirou Miki as Haijuu, Maaya Sakamoto as Akira, Chiaki Kobayashi as Shozo, and Makoto Koichi as Kaho.

The anime series is directed by Junji Nishimura (True Tears, Ranma 1/2 Nettou Hen Episode 70 onwards) with Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell director, Urusei Yatsura Episode 1 – Episode 129 chief director) as series screenwriter. The two previously worked together on the vampire comedy anime Vlad Love, with the former as director and the latter as chief director, series composer, and scriptwriter. 

Other staff members include Takuya Saitou (Outlaw Star, Macross 0) as character designer and one of the three chief animation directors, Hiromasa Ogura (Bakuten!! movie co-art director) as art director, Youko Watanabe (Giovanni’s Island assistant color designer) as color designer, Eiji Arai (Fena: Pirate Princess) as photography director, and Kenji Kawai (Ghost in the Shell) as music composer. The other two chief animation directors are Kazuchika Kise (xxxHOLIC and Blood-C character designer) and Toshihisa Kaiya (Ascendance of a Bookworm co-character designer, World Trigger Season 2 and 3 character designer). Signal.MD is in charge of the animation production.

The Fire Hunter is based on the fantasy novels written by Rieko Hinata and illustrated by Akihiro Yamada, which was published from December 20, 2018 to September 3, 2020. Four volumes were released in total by publisher Holp Shuppan.  

Crunchyroll will be streaming the anime as it airs in Japan. It describes the synopsis as:

Outside the magical barriers lies a world overrun by fiery beasts known as Flame Demons, and the only ones who can protect humanity are the Fire Hunters. In the dark woods where the beasts roam is where Toko, a young villager, is rescued from attack by one of these skilled trackers, Koshi. But their meeting was no accident, and a new destiny begins.
