By The Grace of the Gods is based on the Hobby Japan-published light novel series by Roy, which began in 2017 and has 12 volumes as of November 2022. The books are published under the HJ Novels label. The first season aired in Fall 2020 with 12 episodes.

J Novel Club describes the book series as:

Under the protection of the gods, a relaxed life with slimes in another world begins! One day, the life of middle-aged Japanese businessman Ryoma Takebayashi came to a rather sudden and disappointing end. Ryoma had never had a blessed life, but after his death, three great gods sought his cooperation and reincarnated him as a child in another world with swords and magic! Receiving a most cordial and divine welcome from the gods, Ryoma decides to live leisurely on his own in the forest for the time being. Working diligently at magic and hunting, Ryoma’s greatest passion comes to be researching his tamed slimes?! Training a variety of slimes (some newly discovered), the curtain rises on this easygoing life fantasy celebrating a second life with kind people in another world!

By The Grace of the Gods Season 2 sees the return of Yuuji Yanase as director and MAHO FILMS as the animation production company. Kaho Deguchi, the main character designer for Season 1, is now simply credited as character designer. Meanwhile, Yuka Yamada (Tokyo Mew Mew New) is taking over the series composer role.

Other returning Season 1 staff include Aki Watanabe as color designer, Satoru Shibata as art director, Yukina Nomura as photography director, and Hiroaki Tsutsumi as music composer.

Meanwhile, the returning cast includes Azusa Tadokoro as Ryoma, Yuuki Kuwahawa as Eliaria Jamil, and Marika Kouno as Miya. Yuiko Tatsumi is one of Season 2’s cast additions as Miyabi.

By The Grace of the Gods was originally a web novel that began serialization on Shousetsuka ni Narou in 2014, with a revised version beginning in 2015. The light novels have inspired a Square Enix-published manga adaptation by Ranran.

Melvyn originally wanted to write about video games, so he spent a few years, starting from his college days, doing so. He still likes video games, but now focuses on writing anime-related news content and the occasional review for Anime Trending. Some of his free time is spent self-learning Japanese, both out of interest in the language and because English-translated light novels and manga are expensive.
