Netflix has released the full opening sequence of its upcoming anime anthology series Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre. The opening features the song “Paranoid” performed by J-pop hip hop group MADKID. The anime series will premiere on Netflix on January 19, 2023.
The streaming company also added that a short series preview of Junji Ito Maniac will be released very soon.
Like the 2018 Junji Ito Collection anime series, the production staff includes Shinobu Tagashira as director and character designer, Kaoru Sawada as scriptwriter, and Yuuki Hayashi as music composer. Studio Deen is serving as the animation production company.
Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre will adapt select stories for the show including Tomie, Souichi, Terumi Fujino, The Long Hair in the Attic, Unendurable Labyrinth, The Bully, and Where the Sandman Lives. It will draw from short story collections like The Hanging Balloons, Lovesickness: Junji Ito Story Collection, and Deserter: Junji Ito Story Collection.

Some of the previously announced cast members include Takahiro Sakurai and Romi Park as The Strange Hikizuri Siblings: The Séance‘s Kazuya and Kinako Hikizuri respectively, Youko Hikasa as The Long Hair in the Attic‘s Chiemi; Hisako Kanemoto as Unendurable Labyrinth‘s Sayoko; Natsumi Takamori as The Bully‘s Kuriko; and Hajime Iijima, Risa Shimizu, Ayaka Asai, and Tomoko Kaneda as The Strange Hikizuri Siblings: The Séance‘s Shigoro, Narumi, Hitoshi, and Misako Hikizuri respectively.
