Crunchyroll Announces Revenger, The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World, & By the Grace of the Gods Season 2 Licenses at NYCC

At its industry panel at New York Comic Con 2022, Crunchyroll has announced the license acquisition of three anime series, consisting of Revenger, The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World, and By the Grace of the Gods season two. The series will all be streamed worldwide, except in Asian territories. 

Revenger is an upcoming original anime series from Nitroplus and Shochiku that is described as a revenge thriller. More information about the staff, voice cast, and animation studio will be released at a later date. 

Crunchyroll describes the Revenger anime series as: 

As master assassin Usui Yuen looks into a series of assassinations made on the grand samurai clan, the Satsuma, he encounters Kurima Raizo, member and survivor of one of the attacks. Together, they discover the true nature of these murders is bigger than over stolen resources. As they get closer to the truth, will they come out alive to exact revenge?

The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World is an adventure fantasy anime that will premiere in January 2023. The voice cast for the series will consist of Junya Enoki as Ray White, Inori Saeki as Amelia Rose, and Nana Harumura as Elisa Griffith.

The production staff includes Masahiro Takata (Nil Admirari no Tenbin director and audio director) as director, series screenwriter, and audio director, Makoto Shimojima (The Genius Prince’s Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt and Magatsu Wahrheit -Zuerst- animation director) as character designer, Studio Recess’ Ayumi Kojima (Fate/Grand Order: Himuro no Tenchi – 7-nin no Saikyou Ijin-hen co-art director) as art director, animocaramel’s Natsumi Uchida (The Genius Prince’s Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt) as photography director, and Tatsuhiko Saiki (The Dawn of the Witch) and Natsumi Tabuchi (My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! co-music composer) as music composers. Cloudhearts is in charge of animation production with Yokohama Animation Lab credited with production assistance.

Crunchyroll describes the synopsis as: 

The Iceblade Sorcerer is hailed as the most powerful sorcerer in the world. The one who inherited this title, Ray White, struggles to deal with his own immense power. After fighting in the Far East War, his last accomplishment, he vanished from the battlefield along with a deeply scarred psyche. Three years have passed since then, and Ray has enrolled at the Arnold Academy of Magic, a school attended by elite sorcerers from around the world. Ray is the first “Ordinary” to attend this academy since it was founded, so he’s greeted by looks of scorn and contempt from its noble-born students. And now, he and the priceless friends he has found there are about to become entangled in multiple schemes. So begins the story of the most powerful sorcerer’s school life filled with both friendship and hardship.

The second season of By the Grace of the Gods is also slated for a release in January 2023. The previous voice cast from the first season are all reprising their respective roles, including Azusa Tadokoro as Ryoma, Yuuki Kuwahawa as Eliaria Jamil, and Marika Kouno as Miya. Yuiko Tatsumi will also voice the anime’s newest character, Miyabi.  

Meanwhile, the returning production staff includes Yuuji Yanase as director, Kaho Deguchi (In The Land of Leadale) as character designer and chief animation director, and Yuka Yamada (Tokyo Mew Mew New) as the new series screenwriter. MAHO FILMS is in charge of animation production once again.

By the Grace of the Gods is described by Crunchyroll as: 

Only 39 years into a life full of bad luck, Ryoma Takebayashi passes away in his sleep! Taking pity on him, three divine beings show compassion by reincarnating him as a young boy to a magical, new world. Now he spends his time researching and caring for slimes. But after healing an injured traveler, Ryoma decides to set out with his new friends on a journey to use his power to help others.
