Milan Records has announced that two original musical tracks from Exception (Soundtrack from The Netflix Anime Series) have been released, ahead of the soundtrack’s full release on October 14, 2022. This release date also coincides with the Exception anime premiere on Netflix.

The first track is titled “Opening for ‘Exception’,” which is described as an otherworldly orchestral piece featuring sweeping strings layered with piano and ethereal synths. The second track “oxygen” is an extended reprisal of the opening theme song. Both songs can now be heard on various music streaming platforms, including Apple Music and Spotify.
Exception’s soundtrack album is arranged by legendary musical composer Ryuichi Sakamoto. He described making the opening song for the anime to be a symphonic piece that has become a staple in sci-fi films like Star Wars. He wanted the soundtrack as a whole to be darkly ambient and feel like one piece of music rather than separate pieces scene-by-scene. He liked the soundtrack he made overall and included a degree of harsh sounds during the anime’s fighting sequences.
The sci-fi anime series is created and written by novelist Hirotaka Adachi and features character designs from Yoshitaka Amano (Final Fantasy). The main voice cast for the series include Chikahiro Kobayashi, Takahiro Sakurai, Yuuko Kaida, Takanori Hoshino, and Atsumi Tanezaki.
Netflix describes the Exception anime as:
In the far future, humanity has been driven from Earth and forced to move its population to another galaxy. Members of a scouting team are sent to search for a planet suitable for terraforming. The crew was created through a biological 3D printer, but a system malfunction causes one of the crew members, Lewis, to emerge in a deformed state. As Lewis turns on his fellow crew members Nina, Mack, Patty and Oscar, a countdown to the end of the mission begins in the frightening darkness of the ship.
