Netflix’s sci-fi horror anime Exception will arrive on the streaming platform on October 13. A visual and a trailer previewing its visual style and premise have been released.

Exception is created and written by novelist Hirotaka Adachi (or Otsuichi) and features character designs from Yoshitaka Amano (Final Fantasy) and music from Ryuichi Sakamoto. The show takes place in a future where humans can make identical copies of themselves via a biological 3D printer, with the story following a spaceship crew of “printed” people who find themselves facing a monstrous “failed misprint” of one of their members during a mission.

Chikahiro Kobayashi, Takahiro Sakurai, Yuko Kaida, Takanori Hoshino, and Atsumi Tanezaki are among the Japanese cast for the show.

Melvyn originally wanted to write about video games, and he did so for a few years, starting from his college days. He still writes about video games sometimes, but now focuses on anime-related news content and the occasional review. Some of his free time is spent self-learning Japanese, both out of interest in the language and because English-translated light novels and manga are expensive. Every anime season, Melvyn looks forward to discovering new standout episodes and OP/ED animation sequences, as well as learning about the storyboard artists and directors behind them.
