The anime production staff is headlined by Yuushi Ibe (The Maid I Hired Recently Is Mysterious assistant director) as director, Deko Akao (My Stepmom`s Daughter Is My Ex) as series screenwriter, Mai Ootsuka (The Demon Girl Next Door 2) as character designer, and Kouji Fujimoto (The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated!) of Sus4 Inc. as music composer. SILVER LINK is handling the animation production for the series.

The original light novel series is written by Nozomu Mochitsuki and illustrated by Gilse. It first originated as a web novel on Shousetsuka ni Narou on August 13, 2018. Publisher TO Books re-published the series with new illustrations under their TO Books imprint on June 10, 2019. 10 physical volumes have been released as of May 2022, with an 11th due for release on September 10, 2022.

A manga adaptation of the series by Mizu Morino was launched in Comic Corona magazine on August 12, 2019. J-Novel Club has licensed both the light novels and manga series in English on their website.

Morino also posted a congratulatory illustration to celebrate news of the anime production.

J-Novel Club describes the synopsis of the light novels as:

Surrounded by the hate-filled gazes of her people, the selfish princess of the fallen Tearmoon Empire, Mia, takes one last look at the bleeding sun before the guillotine blade falls… Only to wake back up as a twelve-year-old! With time rewound and a second chance at life dropped into her lap, she sets out to right the countless wrongs that plague the ailing Empire. Corrupt governance? Check. Border troubles? Check. Natural calamities and economic strife? Check. My, seems like a lot of work.

Hard work and Mia don’t mix, so she seeks out the aid of others, starting with her loyal maid, Anne, and the brilliant minister, Ludwig. Together, they strive day and night to restore the Empire. Little by little, their tireless efforts begin to change the course of history, pushing the whole of the continent toward a new future. And why did the selfish princess have a change of heart, you ask? Simple—she didn’t. She’s just terrified of the guillotine. They hurt like hell, and Mia hates pain more than work.
