One Piece Film Red has made over 10 billion yen (~US$73.13 million) in Japan since premiering on August 6, the show’s Twitter account has revealed.

A special illustration from One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda was released to commemorate the film’s box office achievement.

One Piece Film Red is currently the fastest 2022-released movie to hit the 10 billion yen mark, due to it earning that amount in 20 days. Furthermore, while Kogyo Tsushin’s all-time ranking list has not yet been updated at the time of writing, the film’s passing of the 10 billion yen mark makes it at least the 41st top-grossing movie in Japan at the moment.

A moviegoer count of 7.2 million was also recorded.

For comparison, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, which is Japan’s 14th top-grossing movie with 13.75 billion yen (~US$100.05 million) in domestic earnings, took 43 days from its December 24, 2021 premiere to pass the 10 billion yen mark. However, One Piece Film Red is still surpassed by Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train, which took 10 days to pass the mark.

One Piece Film Red is the 15th movie in the One Piece anime franchise. It is directed by Gorou Taniguchi (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;SurrectionOne Piece: Taose! Kaizoku Gyanzakku) with Tsutomu Kuroiwa (One Piece Film: Gold, GANTZ:O) as scriptwriter, Masayuki Satou (One Piece Film Strong World character designer and animation director) as character designer and chief animation director, and Oda as general producer and original story creator.

The film features a major new character called Uta (Kaori Nazuka; singing voice Ado), a diva who is also Shank’s daughter. Several animated music videos have been released for Uta’s songs from the Uta no Uta One Piece Film Red album. The first of these was released on June 15 and has amassed over 36 million views so far, while the latest was uploaded on August 24 and has obtained over 1.3 million views at the time of writing.
