Ranking of Kings: Treasure Chest of Courage Anime TV Project Airs in 2023, Reveals Key Visual

A new anime television project based on Ranking of Kings will premiere in 2023. The project, titled Ranking of Kings: Treasure Chest of Courage, features a new key visual highlighting Bojji and Kage. WIT Studio is returning for the animation production.

The voice cast for the first season includes Minami Hinata as Bojji, Ayumu Murase as Kage, Yuuki Kaji as Daida, Rina Satou as Hilling, Takuya Eguchi as Domas, Hiroki Yasumoto as Apis, Hinata Tadokoro as Drushi, Daiki Yamashita as Hokuro, Kenta Miyake as Boss, Takako Honda as Sheena, Maaya Sakamoto as Miranjo, Yoshimitsu Shimoyama as Desha, and Takahiro Sakurai as Despa.

The main production staff for the first season consists of Yousuke Hatta (Boogiepop And Others assistant director) as director, Taku Kishimoto (Moriarty the Patriot second cour) as series screenwriter, Atsuko Nozaki (The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky The Animation) as character designer and chief animation director, and Maki Kawake (Love Live! Sunshine!! The School Idol Movie Over the Rainbow clothes designer) as sub-character designer and chief animation director. 

Other staff members include Yuuji Kaneko (Josee, the Tiger and the Fish) as art director, Satoshi Hashimoto (Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro) as color designer, Kazuto Izumida (Shōjo☆Kageki Revue Starlight) and Noriyuki Ueda (Sirius the Jaeger co-photography director) as photography directors, and MAYUKO (Cells at Work!) as music composer.

Masaru Ooshiro (Josee, the Tiger and the Fish key animator), Shin Ogasawara (Pokémon: Twilight Wings character designer), Nozomi Fujii (Blade of the Immortal key animator), and Kanako Yoshida (Sonny Boy and Mob Psycho 100 II key animator) are the main animators. WIT Studio handled the animation production for season one.

Ranking of Kings is based on the digital manga series by Sousuke Touka, which began publication on May 20, 2017. 12 tankoubon volumes have been released as of August 2022. The series is published under the BEAM COMIX label.

Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan. It describes the anime as: 

How prosperous your nation is, how many powerful warriors it boasts, and how heroic and strong its king is. These are the criteria that factor into the system known as the Ranking of Kings.

The main character, Bojji, was born the first prince of the kingdom ruled by King Bossu, who is ranked number seven.

But Bojji was born unable to hear and is so powerless that he can’t even swing a sword. In consequence, his own retainers and the public, look down upon him as completely unfit to be king. 

It is then that Bojji finds his first friend, Kage, and Bojji’s life takes a dramatic turn…
