A video uploaded on the TOHO animation YouTube channel has revealed that Naoya Matsumoto’s Kaiju No. 8 manga is getting an anime adaptation.

It was teased on August 1 that there would be a major Kaiju No. 8 announcement on August 5 at 12 AM JST. Details about the anime’s staff, cast, production studio, and release date are currently unknown.

The Shueisha-published manga began in 2020 and has seven tankoubon volumes as of July 2022. It is serialized on Shonen Jump + and published under the Jump Comics label.

Viz Media describes the story as:

Kafka hopes to one day keep his pact with his childhood friend Mina to join the Japan Defense Force and fight by her side. But while she’s out neutralizing kaiju as Third Division captain, Kafka is stuck cleaning up the aftermath of her battles. When a sudden rule change makes Kafka eligible for the Defense Force, he decides to try out for the squad once more. There’s just one problem—he’s made the Defense Force’s neutralization list under the code name Kaiju No. 8.

Melvyn originally wanted to write about video games, and he did so for a few years, starting from his college days. He still writes about video games sometimes, but now focuses on anime-related news content and the occasional review. Some of his free time is spent self-learning Japanese, both out of interest in the language and because English-translated light novels and manga are expensive. Every anime season, Melvyn looks forward to discovering new standout episodes and OP/ED animation sequences, as well as learning about the storyboard artists and directors behind them.
