Days with my Step Sister originated with a YouTube channel launched in April 2020. The channel features several limited animation videos with professional voice acting and are available in English, Chinese, Spanish, and Vietnamese subtitles. The first video was uploaded on May 1, 2020.
The YouTube web anime episodes feature an ensemble voice cast, including Kouhei Amasaki as Yuuta Asamura and Taichi Asamura, Yuki Nakashima as Saki Ayase, Daiki Hamano as Tomokazu Maru, Ayu Suzuki as Maaya Narasaka, Minori Suzuki as Shiori Yomiuri, and Eriko Hara as Akiko Ayase. The voice cast for the web series will all be reprising their roles for the television anime series.
Their most recent web anime episode commented on news of the series’ anime announcement.
The light novels were first published on January 25, 2021, written by Ghost Mikawa and illustrated by Hiten. It is released by Kadokawa’s Media Factory publisher under their MF Bunko J imprint. Five physical volumes have been published in total as of July 2022, with a sixth volume set for release on August 25, 2022.
A manga adaptation with artwork by Yumika Kanae was launched on July 16, 2021 and was serialized in Kadokawa Shoten’s Shounen Ace Plus online magazine. One tankoubon volume has been released so far.
Ghost Mikawa also previously wrote the My Friend’s Little Sister Has It In for Me! light novel series, which had its own anime adaptation announced in January 2021.

Kadokawa describes the story of Days with my Step Sister as:
After his father’s remarriage, Yuuta Asamura ends up getting a new stepsister, coincidentally the number one beauty of the school year, Saki Ayase. Having learned important values when it comes to relationships between men and women through the previous ones of their parents, they promise each other not to be too close, not to be too opposing, and to merely keep a vague and comfortable distance.
On one hand, Saki, who has worked in solitude for the sake of her family, doesn’t know how to properly rely on others, whereas Yuuta is unsure of how to really treat her. Standing on fairly equal ground, these two slowly learn the comfortable sensation of living together.
Their relationship slowly evolves from being strangers the more the days pass. This is a story that may lead to love someday.
