Nexon’s Blue Archive mobile game has received a nine-minute anime short to celebrate the Japanese version’s 1.5 year anniversary (the English-subtitled version is simply titled New Summer Animation PV).

The short sees several Blue Archive characters going on a shopping trip at the mall before combat breaks out near the end. The ending theme song is “Kagayaki Summer Days” by Hoshino (Yumiri Hanamori), Shiroko (Yui Ogura), Nonomi (Chiyuki Miura), Serika (Ayaka Oohashi), and Ayane (Sayaka Harada).

The staff includes Tatsuya Nokimori (RPG Real Estate and Selection Project episode director) as unit director, Tomoyuki Kurokawa (Shenmue the Animation) as storyboarder, Kimiko Kitazawa (Blue Archive anime PV full version) as color designer, Ryuuta Hayashi (Cestvs: The Roman Fighter art designer) as one of the art directors, and Rio Tsuchiya (Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story) and Yunfei Xiang (Sorairo Utility) as photography directors. Yostar Pictures is the animation production company.

Blue Archive launched for iOS and Android in Japan in February 2021, with the global release following in November 2021. Google Play calls the free-to-play gacha game a “Youth x Academy x Military RPG.”

Google Play describes the game’s premise as:

You have been appointed as an advisor to the Federal Investigation Club, Schale, located in Kivotos. It’s a huge academy city where numerous academies are clustered together.

Resolve the endless incidents that occur in Kivotos with charming allies full of personality, and build special memories with them!
