Shangri-La Frontier Manga Gets Anime and Game


The Shangri-La Frontier: Kusoge Hunter, Kamige ni Nidoman tosu ~ manga by Katarina and Ryousuke Fuji is getting an anime and video game adaptation. A four-minute pre-animated project trailer and visual have been released, with the former featuring the main character’s full-dive into the titular Shangri-La Frontier game, the various characters, and some action. 

The Shangri-La Frontier anime will premiere in 2023. The staff includes Toshiyuki Kubooka (Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina) as director, Kazuyuki Fudeyasu (Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina) as series composer and scriptwriter, Hiroki Ikeshita (Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina storyboarder and episode director) as assistant director, Ayumi Kurashima (Nomad: Megalo Box 2 character designer) as character designer and chief animation director, and Satoshi Sakai (The Seven Deadly Sins: Cursed By Light action animation director) as action and effects animator.

Other credits include Takagi Masato (Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina) as color designer, Inspired as the background art company, Hikaru Yamamoku (ONE PIECE Vol.100/Ep.1000 Celebration Movies “WE ARE ONE.” assistant photography director) as photography director, and MONACA (Assassins Pride) as music composer. C2C is the animation production company.

Meanwhile, the cast includes Yuuma Uchida as Senraku/Rakuro Hizutome, Azumi Waki as Saiga-0/Rei Saiga, Youko Hikasa as Arthur Pencilgon/Towa Amane, Makoto Koichi as Oicazzo/Rei Omi, Rina Hidaka as Emul, and Akio Ootsuka as Weiss Ash.

As for the game, it will be developed by Netmarble Nexus and published by Netmarble.

The Kodansha-published Shangri-La Frontier: Kusoge Hunter, Kamige ni Nidoman tosu ~ began in 2020 and has eight tankoubon volumes as of April 2022, with the ninth volume to be released on July 15. It is serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine and published under the KC Deluxe label. The manga is based on the web novel by Katarina, which began in 2017 and is published on Shousetsuka ni Narou.


The story is set slightly in the future, where games that use displays are considered to be retro. Rakuro Hizutome the “Crappy Game Hunter” dedicates himself to VR games of questionable quality, but one day tries the highly popular “godly game” called Shangri-La Frontier
