HIGH CARD Original TV Anime Series Airs January 2023, Shares New Key Visual & PV Trailer

The original television anime series HIGH CARD is scheduled to air in January 2023. The animation production team has also revealed a new key visual and PV trailer for the series, along with additional information about voice and production staff. An English subbed trailer for the anime can be viewed on TMS Entertainment‘s YouTube channel. 

Japanese band FIVE NEW OLD will be singing the anime’s opening theme “Trickster.” 

Joining the voice cast of the multimedia project are Kazuhiro Yamaji as Bernard Symons and Daisuke Ono as Theodore Constantine Pinochle. The main cast is headlined by Gen Satou as lead protagonist Finn Oldman, Toshiki Masuda as his mentor Chris Redgrave, Shun Horie as High Card leader Leo Constantine Pinochle, Haruka Shiraishi as accountant and clerical staff Wendy Satou, and Yuuichirou Umehara as systems management and sales overseer Vijay Kumar Singh. 

The new production staff for the HIGH CARD anime series include Naoki Kuroyanagi as series composer, joining Kenichi Yamashita (Hensuki: Are you willing to fall in love with a pervert, as long as she’s a cutie?), Kazuhiko Inukai (Bakugan: Armored Alliance), and Shingo Nagai (Mashin Hero Wataru: The Seven Spirits of Ryujinmaru) as scriptwriters. Nozomi Kawano (Idoly Pride) and Haruna Nagata (The Stranger By the Shore) are the chief animation supervisors, while Ryou Takahashi (Healer Girl) serves as the music composer.

They all join Junichi Wada (SAKUGAN) as director and illustrator Ebimo as original character designer. Kawano also serves as character designer for the series. Homura Kawamoto (Kakegurui) and Hikaru Muno (Build Divide: Code White) are credited with the original work concept. Studio HIBARI will handle the animation production. 

Additional staff members include Shunpei Mochizuki (SAKUGAN character designer) and Junichi Hayama (Golden Kamuy main animator) as action directors and key animators, Takashi Hashimoto (Fate/Grand Order THE MOVIE Divine Realm of the Round Table: Camelot Wandering; Agateram co-effects animation director) as effects animation director, Yumi Nanmoku (Bakugan: Geogan Rising) as color designer, Minoru Oonishi (SAKUGAN) and Akira Suzuki (The Duke of Death and His Maid) as art directors, and Tomoyuki Kunii (Rumble Garanndoll) as photography director. 

TMS Entertainment, Kadokawa, and Sammy are involved with production of the HIGH CARD project, which was first announced in June 2021. In addition to an anime series, the multimedia project is also releasing an original manga, light novel, short story, and drama CD adaptation.

TMS Entertainment describes the synopsis of HIGH CARD as: 

After discovering that his orphanage was on the brink of closing due to financial stress, Finn, who was living freely on the streets, set out for a casino with the aim of making a fortune. However, nothing could have prepared Finn for the nightmare that was awaiting him. Once there, Finn encountered a car chase and bloody shootout caused by a man’s “lucky” card.

Finn will eventually learn what the shootout was about. The world order can be controlled by a set of 52 X-Playing cards with the power to bestow different superhuman powers and abilities to the ones that possess them. With these cards, people can access the hidden power of the “buddy” that can be found within themselves.

A frenzied battle amongst these card obsessed players, fueled by justice, desire, and revenge, is about to begin!
