WATATEN!: An Angel Flew Down to Me: Precious Friends Premieres October 14, Previews New Visual & PV Film Teaser

A new key visual and PV teaser trailer has been revealed for the WATATEN!: An Angel Flew Down to Me: Precious Friends anime film. It will begin screening in Japanese theaters on October 14, 2022. 

The new 33-second teaser and key visual showcase the returning characters from the anime’s first season. A theatrical anime film based on WATATEN! was first confirmed in February 2021 with an early release date and visual released later in March 2022. 

The returning voice cast includes Reina Ueda as Miyako Hoshino, Maria Sashide as Hana Shirosaki, Rika Nagae as Hinata Hoshino, Akari Kitou as Noa Himesaka, Hitomi Oowada as Koyori Tanemura, Naomi Oozora as Kanon Konomori, and Lynn as Kouko Matsumoto. All five main voice actresses, excluding Ueda and Lynn, will perform the film’s theme song “Precious Friends!” as the unit Wataten 5. 

The film’s production team includes Daisuke Hiramaki (Selection Project) returning as director, Yuka Yamada (Slow Loop) as scriptwriter, and Hiromi Nakagawa (WATATEN!) as character designer. Doga Kobo is once again handling animation production. 

The original slice-of-life comedy manga was first created by Nanatsu Mukunoki on November 18, 2016, launching in Ichijinsha’s Comic Yuri Hime magazine. 10 tankoubon volumes have been published in total as of June 11, 2022.

The first anime season of WATATEN! premiered in January 2019 and ran for 12 episodes. An OVA was released in November 2019. Crunchyroll streamed the anime in English as the series aired in Japan. It describes the story as:

Miyako is a shy college student who is also an otaku. One day she happens to meet some angelic grade school kids! When Miyako sees her little sister’s new friend Hana-chan, Miyako’s heart won’t stop racing! Miyako tries to get along with them but struggles… A sketch comedy all about trying to get along with the super cute girl is about to begin!
