Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth Reveals July 2 Start With 2nd Trailer


The Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth anime has revealed a July 2 Japanese premiere date along with a second trailer. The new trailer previews the opening song “Hito Nanda” by Suara.

More cast members were also announced. They include Miyuki Sawashiro as Aruru, Rie Kugimiya as Kamyu, Sayaka Ohara as Urutori, Atsuko Tanaka as Karulau, and Kaya Miyake as Touka.

Other newly announced cast members include Tsuyoshi Koyama as Kurou, Daisuke Namikawa as Benawi, Daisuke Kirii as Oboro, Akeno Watanabe as Dori and Gura, and Hiroshi Shirokuma as Munto.

Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth is an adaptation of the AQUAPLUS video game of the same name, which was first released in Japan in 2016 for PS3, PS4, and PS Vita. An English version was published in 2017, and the game was later released on Steam in 2020.

The anime’s staff includes Kenichi Kawamura (Re: Life In a different World from Zero: Frozen Bonds chief director) as director, Itsuki Yokoyama (Overlord II scriptwriter) as series composer, and Masahiko Nakata (INFINITE DENDROGRAM) as character designer and chief animation director. Other staff include Yoshito Takamine (Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World- Season 2) as art director, Tsubasa Yokoyama (She Professed Herself Pupil of the Wise Man) as photography director, and Miyuki Satou (Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon) as color designer. Aquaplus is credited with the music, while WHITE FOX is the animation production company.  

Meanwhile, the main cast includes Kentarou Tone as Oshtar/Haku, Risa Taneda as Kuon, Chinatsu Akasaki as Anju, and Inori Minase as Nekone.

The first Utawarerumono game was released in 2002, while the second game was released in 2015. The series has inspired spin-offs, manga, and various anime adaptations, including 2006’s Utawarerumono, a 2009 Utawareumono OVA, 2015’s Utawarerumono The False Faces, and the 2018 Utawarerumono: Tusukuru-koujo no Karei Naru Hibi OVA.
