A television anime adaptation of Hitsuji Yamada’s The Masterful Cat Is Depressed Again Today is in the works and will premiere sometime in 2023. News of the adaptation was first confirmed in the July issue of Kodansha’s Monthly Shounen Sirius magazine and their Twitter page.

No voice cast or production staff for the anime have been announced as of yet. Meanwhile, Yamada shared a special illustration of the series to celebrate the news of the anime production.

The original manga first started out as a webcomic in Kodansha’s Suiyoubi no Sirius online manga section of their Nico Nico Seiga website in August 22, 2018. The series then began serialization in Monthly Shounen Sirius on October 26, 2021. Five tankoubon volumes have been published and released as of May 25, 2022.

Seven Seas Entertainment releases the manga in English for North America. They describe the series as:

Saku is an ordinary young woman who works long hours and lives alone with her cat, Yukichi. Yukichi, however, is not an ordinary house cat. For one, the temperamental feline towers over Saku and walks around on two legs. Instead of playing with toy mice, he scours supermarket flyers for good deals and keeps the house spotless. With a pet like that, it’s hard to tell who’s taking care of who!
