Yen Press has announced that it has licensed the Sasaki and Miyano manga spinoff Hirano and Kagiura for publication in North America. The series will be released in English sometime later this October.

Series creator Shou Harusono first published the Hirano and Kagiura spinoff in Media Factory’s Monthly Comic Gene shoujo magazine in March 2019. Two volumes have been published as of May 7, 2022.

Harusono began the Sasaki and Miyano manga series in 2016 on the Pixiv Comic online magazine. Eight tankoubon volumes have been released so far and the series has an anime television adaptation, two light novels, and a drama CD series. The manga is published under Media Factory’s Gene Pixiv imprint.

An anime sequel for Sasaki and Miyano was first announced in March, shortly after the conclusion of the first season. The first season consisted of 12 episodes in total with an extra OVA set to be released on July 27, 2022. Funimation streamed the series in English speaking territories as the anime aired.

Shinji Ishihira (Log Horizon: Destruction of the Round Table) served as director for the anime’s first season. Other production staff for the series includes Takahiro Ueno (Fairy Gone episode director) as assistant director, Yoshiko Nakamura (Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle) as series scriptwriter, Maki Fuujii (Our Love Has Always Been 10 Centimeters Apart) as character designer, Masaki Mayuzumi (Dr. Ramune -Mysterious Disease Specialist-) as art director, Katsuragi Imazato (The Seven Deadly Sins: Cursed By Light) as color designer, Shinyo Kondou (The Seven Deadly Sins: Cursed By Light) as photography director, and Kana Shibue (Devils’ Line) as music composer. Studio Deen is handling the animation production.

Yen Press describes the series’ story as:

It all started like a typical old-school boys’ love plotline—bad-boy senior meets adorably awkward underclassman, one of them falls in love, and so on and so forth. But although Miyano is a self-proclaimed boys’ love expert, he hasn’t quite realized…he’s in one himself. Which means it’s up to Sasaki to make sure their story has a happily ever after…!
