Made in Abyss Season 2 Reveals 2nd Trailer, More Cast, Theme Song Artists


The upcoming Made in Abyss: The Sun Blazes Upon the Golden City (Made in Abyss: Retsujitsu no Ougonkyou) anime has released a second trailer. The show, which is the second of season of the Made in Abyss anime, is set to premiere in Japan in July.

Unlike the first trailer, the new promotional video follows the perspective of Riko and her companions. It also previews the opening song “Katachi” by Riko Azuna and reveals MYTH & ROID as the artist for ending song “Endless Embrace.”

Additionally, the anime’s website revealed more cast members in the form of Hiroki Gotou as Majikaja, Kana Ichinose as Maa-san, Kimiko Saitou as Moogie, Ryouta Takeuchi as Gaburoon, Inori Minase as Prushka, and Toshiyuki Morikawa as Bondrewd.

Made in Abyss: The Sun Blazes Upon the Golden City is based on the Made in Abyss manga by Akihito Tsukushi. The Takeshobo-published manga, serialized on Web Comic Ganma and published under the Bamboo Comics label, began in 2012 and has ten tankoubon volumes as of July 2021. The first season of the anime series was released in 2017 and followed by a two-part compilation movie and the Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul film in 2019 and 2020 respectively. 

Sentai Filmworks describes the first season as:

The “Abyss” is the last unexplored region, an enormous and treacherous cave system filled with ancient relics and strange creatures. Only the bravest of adventurers can traverse its depths, earning them the nickname, “Cave Raiders.” Within the depths of the Abyss, a girl named Riko stumbles upon a robot who looks like a young boy. Tantalized by the Abyss, Riko and her new friend descend into uncharted territory to unlock its mysteries, but what lies in wait for them in the darkness?

The returning staff from the first season of Made in Abyss includes Masayuki Kojima as director, Hitoshi Haga as assistant director, Hideyuki Kurata as scriptwriter, Production I.G’s Kazuchika Kise as character designer, Takeshi Takakura as design leader, Inspired’s Osamu Masuyama as art director, Misao Yamashita as color designer, T2 Studio’s Tsunetaka Ema as photography director, and Kevin Penkin as music composer. Kinema Citrus is again the animation production company.

New staff additions include Yuka Kuroda (Gekijouban Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight main animator) as co-character designer and Inspired’s Teru Sekiguchi (Hololive Alternative teaser PV) as co-art director. Additionally, Kou Yoshinari is no longer listed as creature designer.

Meanwhile, the returning voice cast includes Miyu Tomita as Riko, Mariya Ise as Reg, and Shiori Izawa as Nanachi. Joining them are Misaki Kuno as Faputa, Yuka Terasaki as Vueko, Hiroaki Hirata as Wazukyan, and Mitsuki Saiga as Belaf.
