The Gundam.info website has released several screenshots from the upcoming Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan’s Island movie, which is set to premiere in Japan on June 3.

It also revealed that the Mobile Suit Gundam series’ 15th episode, on which the movie is based on and named after, will be streamed on the Gundam YouTube channel on April 15, 7PM JST.

The “mecha action” images serve to provide a preview of Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan’s Island‘s 3DCG-rendered mecha, including the RX-78-02 Gundam, the MS-06F Zaku used by the titular Cucuruz Doan, and the Zaku High Mobility Type.

A comment from director Yoshikazu Yasuhiko (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin chief director, Mobile Suit Gundam character designer and animation director) noted that while Cucuruz’s mobile suit in the original TV series was just an ordinary Zaku, the movie’s version was designed to be more battered and damaged-looking to make it more unusual and distinct from other Zakus. This was due to co-mecha designer Hajime Katoki‘s (Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory and Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway co-mecha designer) influence, with Yasuhiko jokingly saying that Katoki seemed to have an “unusual emotional attachment” to the mobile suit.

Yasuhiko also said that due to him being from an older generation, he wanted Cucuruz Doan’s Island to have the feel of a “chivalry movie” (a type of yakuza film that emerged in the 60s).

Aside from Yasuhiko and Katoki, the staff includes Im Ga-Hee (Sonny Boy episode director) as assistant director, Toshizou Nemoto (Bakuten!!) as scriptwriter, Yuuji Kaneko (Josee, Tiger and the Fish) as art director, Nagisa Abe (SCARLET NEXUS) as color designer, Morihito Abe (Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway co-CG director) as CG director, and Takayuki Hattori (Space Brothers live-action movie) as music composer.

Additionally, Yasuhiko, Atsushi Tamura (Weathering with You co-character designer) and Tsukasa Kotobuki (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin co-character designer) are serving as character designers, while Kunio Okawara (GUNDAM BREAKER BATTLOGUE co-mecha designer, Mobile Suit Gundam) and Kimitoshi Yamane (Mobile Fighter G Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway co-mecha designer) are serving as mecha designers with Katoki. Sunrise is the animation production company.

Meanwhile, the cast includes Tooru Furuya as Amuro Ray, Ken Narita as Bright Noa, Satomi Arai as Mirai Yashima, Megumi Han as Sayla Mass, Toshio Furukawa as Kai Shiden, Hideki Nakanishi as Hayato Kobayashi, Misato Fukuen as Fraw Bow, and Tomofumi Ikezoe as Sleggar Law.
