A new JRPG video game from the One Piece franchise titled One Piece Odyssey will launch on game consoles sometime in 2022. The announcement was made through a special announcement trailer that showcased the game’s scenery, cutscenes, and in-game character dynamics.
Bandai Namco revealed the trailer through a live stream on their YouTube channel, confirming that One Piece Odyssey will be released in Western countries. The game will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox consoles, and PC when it is released. Producer Katsuaki Tsuzuki provides a detailed explanation, in the video below, on what makes this new video game installment for the franchise so unique.
The game will feature several playable characters, new and old, including Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, Chopper, Robin, Frankie, and Brook.
Eiichirou Oda, creator of the One Piece manga, is credited with the original story and provides character and monster designs in Odyssey. Motoi Sakuraba (Tales of Phantasia) is composing the game’s music. ILCA is developing One Piece Odyssey and Bandai Namco Entertainment is producing it.
On their official website, the game is described as:
During their voyage, the Straw Hats, led by Monkey D. Luffy are swallowed by a huge storm at sea. They end up on a mysterious island full of nature amidst the storm and become separated from each other. The crew set out on a new adventurous journey filled with wonders of a raging nature, powerful enemies, and strange encounters with island locals.
Oda first launched the original manga series on July 22, 1997 in Weekly Shonen Jump, where it continues to be serialized. In addition to inspiring a long-running anime series in 1999, the franchise has also spawned various films, video games, music, light novels, artbooks, and an upcoming live-action Netflix series.
