The Quintessential Quintuplets is based on the manga by Negi Haruba, which began in 2017 and ended in 2020 with 14 tankoubon volumes. Crunchyroll describes the anime as:

Uesugi Fuutarou, a high school second-year from a poor family, receives a highly appealing offer to work part-time as a tutor… but his students turn out to be girls from his own class! What’s more, they’re quintuplets… and all five are beautiful, but happen to be problem students who have borderline grades and hate studying! Looks like his first assignment will be to win all the sisters’ trust?! Every day is a wild party in this rom-com centering around the quintuplet sisters of the Nakano household!

The Quintessential Quintuplets movie’s main staff includes Masato Jinbo (Restaurant to Another World 2) as director, Keiichirou Oochi (The Quintessential Quintuplets 2 series composer) as scriptwriter, and Masato Katsumata (The Quintessential Quintuplets 2) as character designer.

Aside from Oochi and Katsumata, other returning The Quintessential Quintuplets 2 staff include Akihito Ougiyama as art director, Aiko Matsuyama as color designer, Daisuke Chiba as photography director, and Hanae Nakamura and Miki Sakurai as music composers. Bibury Animation Studios is the animation production company.

The cast includes Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Uesugi Futaro, Kana Hanazawa as Ichika Nakano, Ayana Taketatsu as Nino Nakano, Miku Itou as Miku Nakano, Ayane Sakura as Yotsuba Nakano, and Inori Minase as Itsuki Nakano.

The first season of The Quintessential Quintuplets aired in 2019 with Satoshi Kuwabara as director and Tezuka Productions as the animation production company. The second season aired in 2021 with Kaori as director and Bibury Animation Studios producing.

The manga is serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine and published under the Kodansha Comics label. Aside from the anime, it has inspired a puzzle game and two visual novels, including the upcoming Eiga Gotoubun no Hanayome ~Kimi to Sugoshita Itsutsu no Omoide~ (The Quintessential Quintuplets the Movie ~5 Memories of My Time With You~).

He still writes about video games sometimes, but now focuses on anime-related news content and the occasional review. Some of his free time is spent self-learning Japanese, both out of interest in the language and because English-translated light novels and manga are expensive. Every anime season, Melvyn looks forward to discovering new standout episodes and OP/ED animation sequences, as well as learning about the storyboard artists and directors behind them.
