The Case Study of Vanitas Releases New Key Visual Featuring Vanitas, Noé, & Mikhail

The Case Study of Vanitas teased a new key visual featuring the characters Vanitas, Noé, and Mikhail. The anime is currently running in its second cour that premiered with episode 13 on January 14, 2022. 24 episodes will be aired in total. 

The anime is an adaptation of Jun Mochizuki’s manga of the same name. It is currently covering the Beast of Gévaudan arc that was teased with a special trailer last December. The original manga has run in Square Enix’s Monthly Gangan Joker magazine since 2015 and has published nine tankoubon volumes so far. 

Tomoyuki Itamura (Owarimonogatari) is the series director, Deko Akao (The Dungeon of Black Company) is the main scriptwriter, and Yoshiyuki Itou (Carole & Tuesday) is the character designer and chief animation director. Chiyo Nakayama (Demon Lord, Retry!) is the sub-character designer.

Other staff members include Shingo Kanai (Hortensia Saga) as art director, Ying Ying Zhang (My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising) as photography director, and Yuki Kajiura (Fate/stay night [Heaven’s Feel) as music composer. Bones is handling the animation production

The main cast members include Natsuki Hanae as Vanitas, Kaito Ishikawa as Noé, Inori Minase as Jeanne, Kengo Kawanishi as Roland, and Tomoaki Maeno as Olivier. Joining the main cast are Ayumu Murase as Astolfo, Rie Kugimiya as Chloe, Daiki Hamano as Jean-Jacques, Shino Shimoji as Luca, Ai Kayano as Dominique, Akira Ishida as The Teacher (Sensei), Miyu Komaki as Noé’s cat, Murr, Tarou Kiuchi as Dante, Kouji Yusa as Johann, Miyuri Shimabukuro as Louis, Riho Kuma as Riche, Kaori Nazuka as Naenia, and Toshiyuki Morikawa as August Ruthven.

Funimation describes the series as: 

It’s 19th-century Paris, and young vampire Noé hunts for the Book of Vanitas. Attacked by a vampire driven insane, a human doctor called Vanitas tempts Noé with a mad crusade to “cure” the entire vampire race.

While allying with him may be dangerous, news reaches Vanitas that the Beast of Gévaudan has returned, and Noé is being brought along to investigate this phantom from the past.
