The Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie anime has received its first trailer. The PV previews the central premise of the romantic comedy, which involves its titular character having both a cute and cool side, the latter of which her boyfriend particularly loves.

Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie is set to premiere on April 9. It is based on the romantic comedy manga by Keigo Maki, which began in 2019 and has been collected into 11 volumes as of January 2022. The manga is serialized in Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket app and published under the KC Deluxe label.

Kodansha Comics describes the story as:

Shikimori seems like the perfect girlfriend: cute, fun to be around, sweet when she wants to be… but she has a cool dark side that comes out under the right circumstances. And her boyfriend Izumi loves to be around when that happens! A fun and funny high school romance with a sassy twist perfect for fans of Nagatoro-san and Komi Can’t Communicate!

The main staff includes Ryouta Itou (Sing “Yesterday” for Me assistant director) as director, Shouhei Yamanaka (Remake Our Life! Ep 1-7 assistant director) as assistant director, Ai Kikuchi (Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle) as character designer, and Yoshimi Narita (My Senpai Is Annoying) as series composer. Doga Kobo is the animation production company.

Meanwhile, the cast members include Saori Oonishi as Shikimori, Shuuichirou Umeda as Izumi, Misato Matsuoka as Nekozaki, Rina Hidaka as Hachimitsu, and Nobuhiko Okamoto as Inuduka.

Update: Amended series composer information after mistakenly crediting the role to Durarara!! author Ryougo Narita due to an oversight.

Melvyn originally wanted to write about video games, and he did so for a few years, starting from his college days. He still writes about video games sometimes, but now focuses on anime-related news content and the occasional review. Some of his free time is spent self-learning Japanese, both out of interest in the language and because English-translated light novels and manga are expensive. Every anime season, Melvyn looks forward to discovering new standout episodes and OP/ED animation sequences, as well as learning about the storyboard artists and directors behind them.
