Spike Chunsoft has released a story trailer for its upcoming mystery visual novel/adventure game AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES – nirvanA Initiative, which previews the game’s “Half Body serial killings” mystery and multiple surreal scenes throughout its slightly over two minutes duration.

It was also revealed that the game will be released on June 24 in North America and Europe on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows 10, and Steam.

The sequel to 2019’s AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES sees returning characters Mizuki (Tomoyo Kurosawa/Corina Boettger) and Aiba (Akari Kitou/Erika Harlacher) teaming up with new characters Ryuki (Atsushi Tamaru/Stephen Fu) and Tama (Ai Kakuma/Anairis Quiñones) to tackle the aforementioned Half Body serial killings. The case involves the left half of a corpse being found six years after the right half’s discovery in a fresh state. In addition, the Special Agents and their AI partners will also have to uncover a plot known as the Nirvana Initiative.

On the Spike Chunsoft website, AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES – nirvanA Initiative‘s scenario writer Kotaro Uchikoshi said that the game will feature Two opposites” as its central theme. “For example, Yin and Yang, man and woman, double helix… Love and hate could also be one of them,” Uchikoshi wrote. “The title ‘AI’ also means “love” in Japanese. Similar to the previous work, this game will involve various types of love. Familial love, love for the opposite sex, and love that is not bound by any framework. In addition, this work will dive into the opposite of love, hatred. A love-hate mystery that begins with half of a corpse. I hope you enjoy.”

Uchikoshi also revealed that Mizuki was decided to be in the sequel early on, noting that she was the most popular character from the first AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES. The decision to pair her with a new character was to make AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES – nirvanA Initiative more accessible to newcomers. However, previous protagonist Kaname Date will still appear in the sequel in “an important role.” Other characters from the first game like Iris, Ota, Mama, and Moma will also show up.

Character images for the game’s leads were recently released.
