The Case Study of Vanitas Second Cour Premieres January 14

The second cour of The Case Study of Vanitas is set to premiere on January 14. A special recap episode will air on January 7.

The first cour of the supernatural anime premiered during the Summer 2021 anime season and consists of 12 episodes, with the 12th episode debuting the character Kuroe (Rie Kugimiya). The anime is listed with 24 episodes in total.

The Case Study of Vanitas is based on the ongoing Square Enix-published manga by Pandora Hearts‘s Jun Mochizuki, which began in 2015 and has nine tankoubon volumes as of June 2021.

Wakanim describes the anime as:

This is a tale of vampires on the brink of extinction. In nineteenth-century France, humans and vampires coexist. The young vampire Noé is traveling to Paris in search of The Book of Vanitas, which is said to be capable of unleashing a curse upon all vampires. On an airship, he finds himself embroiled in a strange incident. It is Vanitas, a human calling himself a vampire expert, who appears before Noé in the ensuing chaos. In Vanitas’s hands is the very book that Noé has been searching for: The Book of Vanitas… Following this encounter, the curtain is set to rise on this tale of vampires, curses, and salvation…

The staff includes Tomoyuki Itamura (Owarimonogatari) as director, Deko Akao (The Dungeon of Black Company) as series composer, and Yoshiyuki Itou (Carole & Tuesday co-main animator et al.) as character designer and chief animation director.

Other staff members include Chiyo Nakayama (Demon Lord, Retry! character designer and OP/ED animation director) as sub-character designer, Izumi Takizawa (Fireworks co-color designer) as visual concept artist and color designer, Shingo Kanai (Hortensia Saga) as art director, Ying Ying Zhang (My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising assistant photography director) as photography director, Takuma Miyake (Josee, the Tiger and the Fish) as 3DCG director, and Yuki Kajiura (Fate/stay night [Heaven’s Feel] part III. spring song) as music composer. Bones is the animation production company.

Meanwhile, the cast includes Natsuki Hanae as Vanitas, Kaito Ishikawa as Noé, Inori Minase as Jeanne, Shino Shimoji as Luca, Ai Kayano as Dominique, Akira Ishida as The Teacher (Sensei), Miyu Komaki as Noé’s cat, Murr, Tarou Kiuchi as Dante, Kouji Yusa as Johann, Miyuri Shimabukuro as Louis, Riho Kuma as Riche, Kaori Nazuka as Naenia, Toshiyuki Morikawa as Ruthven, and Kengo Kawanishi as Roland.
