The upcoming Sabikui Bisco anime has received a new trailer, which offers a two-minute look at the post-apocalyptic adventure show and a preview of the opening song “Kaze no Oto sae Kikoenai” by JUNNA. It was also revealed that the anime will premiere in Japan on January 10, 2022.
Sabikui Bisco is based on the light novels written by Shinji Cobkubo and illustrated by K Akagisi and mocha. The first volume was published in 2018, while the seventh and latest volume was published in March 2021. In 2019, the series became the first to take the top spot in both the This Light Novel is Amazing! (Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi!) guide book’s All and New categories. The series also has a manga adaptation which ran from 2019 to 2021.
Yen Press describes the light novels as:
In the far future, a disaster known as the “Rusty Wind” has transformed the majority of Japan into a barren desert and left civilization in tatters. After his teacher falls prey to the rust, the roguish Bisco Akahoshi embarks on journey through the sandy wastes to obtain a mushroom known only as the Rust Eater, rumored to cure the ailment. Together with the dashing young doctor Milo, the pair will have to contend with the unforgiving environment and their fellow wanderers in order to make it back alive.
Sabikui Bisco features an ID: INVADED alumni-heavy staff that includes Atsushi Ikariya (ID: INVADED character designer/chief animation director) as director, Daisuke Mataga (ID: INVADED main animator) as assistant director, Sadayuki Murai (Knights of Sidonia) as series composer and scriptwriter, Ikariya and Ai Asari (ID: INVADED co-prop designer/animation director) as character designers, and Asari and Norie Igawa (ID: INVADED animation director) as chief animation directors.
Other staff include Masakazu Miyake (ID: INVADED) as art director, Yoshihiro Sono (ID: INVADED art designer) as creature designer, Emi Chiba as (ID: INVADED) color designer, Tasuku Takagi (ID: INVADED assistant photography director) as photography director, Takeshi Ueda as music composer, and Kisuke Koizumi (ID: INVADED) as sound director. OZ is in charge of the animation production.
Meanwhile, the cast includes Ryouta Suzuki as Bisco Akaboshi, Natsuki Hanae as Milo Nekoyanagi, Reina Kondou as Pawoo Nekoyanagi, Shirou Saitou as Jabi, Kenjirou Tsuda as Kurokawa, and Miyu Tomita as Tirol Oochagama. Suzuki and Hanae are also performing the ending song “Houkou” as their respective characters.
