World Heroes’ Mission premiered on August 6 in Japan. It is the third movie in the My Hero Academia series, following 2018’s Two Heroes and 2019’s Heroes Rising, as well as the highest-grossing film entry.
Like Heroes Rising, World Heroes’ Mission‘s staff includes Kenji Nagasaki as director, Yousuke Kuroda as scriptwriter, Kazuko Kikuchi as color designer, Yoshihiko Umakoshi as character designer, Mayuko Furumoto as photography director, Yota Ando as 3D director, and Yuuki Hayashi as music composer.
Other staff include Takashi Aoi (My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising background chief et al.), Yumiko Kondou (SK8 the Infinity), and Hiroshi Gouroku (Fate/Grand Order Final Singularity – Grand Temple of Time: Solomon co-art director) as art directors.
The My Hero Academia manga that inspired the anime began serialization in 2014 and has 32 tankoubon volumes as of October 2021. The anime series began in 2016, with its fifth season premiering in March 2021. Both the movies and the series are produced by Bones.
GSC describes the movie as:
When a cult of anti-quirk terrorists destroys a city by releasing a gas that causes people’s powers to go wildly out of control, Japan’s greatest heroes disperse across the globe in an attempt to find the ringleader and bring him to justice. As part of Endeavor’s team, Deku, Bakugo, and Todoroki travel to the European nation of Otheon. But after stopping a robbery gone wrong, Deku finds himself framed for mass murder and on the run with a two-bit criminal with both Otheon’s police force and the terrorists hot on his trail.
