Tomodachi Game Anime Adaptation Announced, Premieres April 2022

A new Twitter account launched to announce that Yuki Sato’s Tomodachi Game (Friends Games) manga will receive a TV anime adaptation to premiere in April 2022. The anime’s staff and cast were also revealed alongside a key visual.

The anime’s staff includes Hirofumi Ogura (Cells at Work!, Black Butler II) as director, Kenta Ihara (Saga of Tanya the Evil, Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy-) as scriptwriter and supervisor, Satomi Miyazaki (Vinland Saga animation director) as character designer, Tulip’s Si Man Wei (Edens Zero) as art director, Tulip’s Tsukasa Ohira (No Game, No Life) as art designer, Aiko Mizuno (Cells at Work!) as color key artist, Yomogiko Murano (Attack on Titan The Final Season) as director of photography, MICHIRU (Ascendance of a Bookworm) as music composer, and Hiroto Morishita (Higurashi: When They Cry – Gou) as sound director at studio Mouse. The animation production will be from Okuruto Noboru.

The cast includes Chiaki Kobayashi as Yuuichi Katagiri, Daiki Hamano as Tenji Misaka, Yume Miyamoto as Shiho Sawaragi, Tomohiro Ono as Makoto Shibe, and Satomi Amano as Yutori Kokorogi.

The Tomodachi Game manga launched in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shounen Magazine in December 2013 and entered its final arc in August 2020. Kodansha published the manga’s 18th volume on June 9, and its 19th volume will release on November 9.

Anime News Network describes the story as:

The story, based on Mikoto Yamaguchi’s original concept, centers on Yūichi Katagiri, a young man with a perfect student life who has four friends with difficult lives. His peaceful daily life comes to an end when 2 million yen (about US$20,000) in school trip fees goes missing. Riddles unfold as Yūichi gets caught up in a mysterious game for money and must decide whether friendship or money matters more.
